During the formal debate, the press questioned Italy about public policies allegedly being implemented in the country. Italy claimed not to have territorial space to provide the necessary support to African refugees and therefore would propose a project to send these people to French territory.
In response, Italy emphasizes the lack of conditions in the country to house the refugees and states that, in reality, they had made an agreement to send them to Angola. This contradicts what had been informed to the press and was pointed out as an inconsistency in the Italian discourse.
Furthermore, Italy highlights that, while attempting to reach an agreement with France, they were not successful, which led them to proceed with the established plan with the support of Angola.
Additionally, in an objective manner, France clarified that, during discussions with Italy, it had been stated that the African refugees would be sent to camps across the European continent and not only to French territory.
Finally, the press, criticizing the delegates, questioned the way they were portraying the refugees, objectifying and treating them as "commodities." Could this be a racist attitude on the part of the delegates?
