In a interview with the International Press, U.S delegate affirmed that their interest relies on buying more carbon credits for compensating their production of pollutant substances and harm done to the nature. However, they do not have plans on investing in clear energy such as what China is doing, as stated in the World Economic Forum: "After years of heavy industrialization, China’s environmental challenges are nearing a tipping point. The factories and power plants that have driven its economic growth have also polluted its air, water and soil, to the point where environmental hazards could lead to a significant risk to China’s society and economy, if not corrected in a timely manner. In a bid to tackle these challenges, China’s government has declared a “war on pollution” and introduced a number of green initiatives." Also, in their initial proposal, which was refused by Brazil, the US showed interest in exploring and deforesting the Amazon Forest for "pharmaceutical purposes", and did not show interest in helping to protect the environment. The US president’s actions have exacerbated the pandemic that has killed more than 200,000 people in the United States, rolled back environmental and public-health regulations and undermined science and scientific institutions. Some of the harm could be permanent. A Clean Environment Is Essential for Healthy Living: The more you don't care about our environment, the more it will become polluted with contaminants and toxins that have a harmful impact on our health. Air pollution can cause respiratory diseases and cancer, among other problems and diseases. North America is rich in wilderness, biodiversity and natural beauty. The region is a global leader in innovation and action. The United States and Canada face growing environmental challenges—including climate change, marine debris and unsustainable production and consumption. However, there was no mention, during the PNUMA/UNEP committee meeting, of their efforts to protect the environment, and only after being ridicularized about their initial proposal, the US comitted to only research in the Amazon without deforesting. The main question is, would they have done it without the worldwide pressure?
